Project Managers

About you

You are an experienced professional managing projects. You operate in corporate environments. The projects you are involved in usually have a significant technological component. Your projects improve the organization and result in change.

Projects are not a once off rather they are at the core of your day to day. Therefore success in projects is vital, it defines the success of your career. Whatever your definition of success might look like. Ranging from a healthy work life balance, financial success or doing your part in creating a better world.

Our clients have genuine care for their projects and the people they work with. Their work excites them as it allows for unique opportunities to have impact and to grow. They love a work life full of variety.

It comes with the project territory: our clients tend to be in charge and like it that way. They actively set out to shape their lives and their projects. They are open minded and eager to learn, curious and positive minded. They strive to be the best project professional they can be.

These are typical issues the Project managers we work with want to see fixed:

Success is not always easy to come by

The reality of many projects is that they are not as successful as they intended to be and in the eyes of the outside world have to be. As the PM you are in the spotlight when it comes to lack of success. What can I do to get this project moving in the right direction. And what can I do to avoid getting into this situation again?

How do I manage this challenging job?

Project life can be challenging, under high pressure. By definition there is a lot of "first time we do this in this context" so there is no auto pilot. All that while there is a lot at stake as most projects originate from a certain urgency. Results are expected, the pressure is on. How do you deal with that?

there are very few people I can consult with

It can be a lonely job at times. The Project Manager is expected to be the solid rock, the one that has all the answers. Where do you go with your questions, doubts and uncertainties? Sure, you have your superior, your fellow PM's and your project team members. But they either don't have the background to truly assist you or they don't provide a true safe environment where you can share your uncertainties and brainstorm towards an approach.

Surely this was not part of my certification program.

There are excellent proven Project Methodologies out there, providing for a broad PM toolset. However, becoming a certified PM is only where it starts. Just applying what you have learned in your education unfortunately does not create project success, you have learned that much. What else is needed to get my projects from decent to fun and successful?

It is rewarding to work with all these different people, ..... most of the time

Project work is team work. Project success is delivered through the people. All unique, some wonderful, some eager, some hesitant, some distracted, some...... How do you create a team, appreciate the differences and integrate them to get synergy and project success? As PM you have a key leadership role to mobilize your team members towards joint delivery and that is a challenge.

Project success can't be forced into reality.

What worked at first all of a sudden does not seem applicable in this new project. As a PM you want to be in control, the reality is you aren't always. Not every situation can be managed, not every element affecting project success is tangible. How do you deal with that?

Trial and error

Growth seems to come mainly through trial and error. You learn through the mistakes and issues of the projects you are involved in. Not always a very efficient nor fun way to grow. Isn't there a shortcut through this?

Create a balanced private / professional life

The reality is that there are few full time Project Professionals over the age of 40. Related to the challenge of the day to day, over a longer period of time being a senior PM is taking its toll on a healthy work - life balance. Most PM's love the variety and constant urge to develop themselves, but it can take its toll. How can you be in this for the long run? How can you keep it fun?
